“ASQA to support RTOs to deliver new infection control training skill sets

15 May 2020

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) acknowledges the approval of new skill sets on infection control to upskill workers and manage risks arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The skill sets have been approved by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC), following endorsement by the AISC Emergency Response Sub-Committee and the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Skills Council.

The skill sets have been designed to enable infection control training across the retail, food and beverage and transport and logistics sectors. The AISC has also developed resources to deliver to these specific cohorts.

The skill sets comprise one unit of competency, being HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

There are 592 registered training organisations (RTOs), regulated by ASQA, which have HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures on scope, either as a stand-alone unit or packaged within a broader qualification. This unit remains current on training.gov.au.

ASQA will be automatically approving these RTOs to also deliver the new unit HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures. RTOs may choose to opt out of this approval by contacting ASQA.

ASQA reminds RTOs intending on delivering the new unit that they will need to address all assessment requirements of that unit. While assessment may be contextualised to specific workplace industries, all performance and knowledge evidence criteria and required conditions of assessment must be addressed.

RTOs with questions are welcome to contact ASQA’s Info Line on 1300 701 801 or by email at enquiries@asqa.gov.au”.
